Landed a remote Alaska gig last fall; my best tip is to ask the recruiter up front, “AK license required, or can I start while it’s pending?” — twice that bumped me to the top because I had my paperwork ready, but watch the AKT clinic hours if you’re out east.
On my last remote gig, I asked for a quick EHR demo and specifically requested “chiro SOAP macros and region-specific templates,” which cut my notes time in half… If they don’t have that, negotiate for some ramp-up time or short-term scribe support during the first month.
But quick tip from my last remote Alaska interview: ask them to put the schedule in writing in Alaska Time with a clear “call window” clause — twice that revealed hidden 6 a.m. AKT starts before I signed. If they can’t flex, I’ve had luck proposing a split shift as a fair alternative.
Piggybacking on scheduling, @j_howard86: I ask if they provide a tele-assist MA for ortho/neuro tests and get the MA coverage grid attached to the offer; if they don’t, I’ve secured either +10 minutes per visit or a small stipend to run the exams solo — worth clarifying before you apply.
And i always ask them to spell out the “no-show pay” and a firm “encounter cap” in the offer — these real-time postings can ramp up fast when the week gets active, and that’s when consult volume quietly doubles. If they won’t cap, I push for a written “paid charting buffer” (e.g., 10 minutes per 4 visits) or a per-minute overflow rate so you’re not eating time.
But agree with @lwilson89 on getting terms in writing — also confirm who pays for the Alaska chiropractic license and the state business license before you apply. One “verified remote” offer missed the business license step and it ran me about $50 plus a two-week wait, which pushed my start. If they balk, ask for a reimbursement clause and a paid “licensure lead-in” week for platform training.
Quick example: last spring I took a remote Alaska contract and the platform blocked my out-of-state VPN, so now I get a written tech-readiness check (sandbox EMR login + paid setup hour) and a phone fallback if video dies; if they balk, I’ll trade for firm AKT clinic windows (no earlier than 8a) written into the offer, @j_howard86.
@lwilson89 I ask for the payer-approved telehealth code list and one de‑identified note that passed audit — my “remote Alaska” contract last year couldn’t bill 98940–98942, so it shifted to 97110/98970 coaching and the rate dipped. If they’ll cover denials and pay a flat during paneling, it can still pencil out — did they show you the code list?
